Since summer has started I wanted to start posting an extra day each week, so I thought ‘Saturday Garden Updates’ would be a good idea.
A few weeks ago I planted all of my lettuce plants in a large bucket. We have tried to plant lettuce in the main garden in previous years, but the monstrous bunny in our backyard thinks we plant it for him. We thought a bucket of lettuce that we can leave on our deck would work out better. *I probably should have taken a picture before I made a big salad for dinner*
Last weekend we planted our main garden, including some of the seeds we bought. Everything is doing pretty well, we have only lost one zucchini plant and my thyme plant. I’m hoping the backup thyme seeds I planted will work; we also have some zucchini seeds as backup.
We planted about 6 rows of corn kernels and in less than a week, we already have little corn plants peaking through the ground!
The only thing we have left to plant is the pickling cucumber plant. We want to figure out the best lattice to use for it, so we can keep it contained while it vines. Last year it took over our garden and almost killed other plants. It was also difficult to actually find the cucumbers as they grew.
We decided to move the cucumber plant to a spot outside of the main garden area as well. We have a blueberry plant in a separate area with just enough room to put it. And we have adorable little blueberries growing already!
I hope you enjoyed this post! Please feel free to leave a question or comment letting me know if you’d like to see more gardening posts. Subscribe for more posts on Mondays, Thursdays, and Saturdays.
